According to Strength Finder 2.0 my top five strengths are as follows:

Discipline-You enjoy routine and structure. Your world is best described by the order you create.
Futuristic-You are inspired by the future and what could be. You inspire others with your visions of the future.
Strategic-You create alternative ways to proceed. Faced with any given scenario, you can quickly spot the relevant patterns and issues.
Relator-You enjoy close relationships with others. You find deep satisfaction in working hard with friends to achieve a goal.
Developer-You recognize and cultivate the potential in others. You spot the signs of each small improvement and derive satisfaction from these improvements.

A time where I can remember these skills working together was during a golf tournament fundraiser I was managing.  Showing up at the golf course at 5:00 am with my photographer, co-manager, and folders of agendas, assignments, seating charts, prize envelopes, and personalized itinerary for each volunteer, I was proudly displaying my‘disciple’ side. Although forecasted to be a beautiful day, the morning sky was ravished by thunder showers and very chilly breezes. Many of my volunteers decided to spend their rainy Saturday morning in bed without calling out. The manager at the country club, who had promised coffee and refreshments for our golfers did not follow through and 30 minutes before the tournament was to start, we realized half the staff was not going to show, there would be no warm beverages, the weather wasn’t looking up, and we still needed to staff the course events for additional fundraisers.  Using my natural ‘strategic’ side, I quickly re-mapped the itineraries, trained my volunteers to do additional jobs, rounded up impromptu volunteers, and had my golfers on the course right on time.

I was not at all surprised that ‘developer’ was last on my list of strengths. I have always naturally gravitated towards those in need of a gentle push.  As the kind of person with huge self-motivational powers, I am confounded by those who have none! I love to help motivate people to work on their strengths and plan out their dreams into goals and get them as excited about their lives as I am about mine! I am a go-getter, as they say, and work hard enough to get pretty much whatever I want. This comes naturally to me and I feel enthusiastically about helping others achieve their goals.

Overall this strength report rang surprisingly true to me. Some of the strength insights described me to a T while others were only slightly off.  I could easily see these 5 strengths in myself, working together to create a spectacular person. I am very glad to see these strengths on paper and to have a list of goals to achieve to develop these strengths further.  This activity greatly excited the ‘futurist’ in me!
